Newsletter
Hi everyone and a warm welcome to 2008 !!!
This is the first NMTC newsletter of 2008.
After a great 2007 season and thanks to some very fine weather recently, we are now ready to take on the 2008 season. At the end of last year, we had a lovely Christmas meal at the Soldier Dick pub in Furness Vale. We are hoping to have a similar social occasion towards the end of March/early April.
I attended the fixtures meeting a couple of weeks ago. It is always difficult to try and get fixtures that everyone will like.. We have 3 Sunday matches (2 at home) and loads of matches in June. Trying to stay in Division 3 of the North East Cheshire League which will be difficult. I think these fixtures give us the best chance of doing it though.
The Winter League have won 4 matches from 8 played and are safe in Division 6. This is a good achievement as we only got promoted last season. High Peak League and Junior League fixtures will appear on the website shortly. This year we are entering 2 junior u-18s teams in the North East Cheshire League
Social tennis has been well attended recently and we will be having a preseason social doubles tournament at the beginning of April. This years there will also be many junior, 2 mens singles and a mens doubles tournament.
If anyone is interested in going to the French Open this year, there will be a contingent going from New Mills. Tickets are on the web www.frenchopen.org.
On the International Tennis scene, Novak Djorkovic managed to win his first grand slam at the Australian pen. This was a fantastic achievement, especially as he needed to beat Federer in the semis. Attention now focuses to the clay season, can Federer dethrone Nadal at the French ? I think he can. Watch this space.
Well done to Maria Sharapova too winning her third slam title at the Australian Open.
See you on court
