'ON THE EDGE' and 'ROAD TO NOWHERE' are the life story and business ventures of local author Anthony Birchenall. Despite being disabled by progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Anthony is a most exuberant character and has dictated the autobiographies of his interesting life. These have now been published, incorporating a selection of relevant photos.
Each book is written in a style which has a powerful immediacy and freshness. This gives you the feel of Anthony being present telling the story in spontaneous conversation. The narrative is filled with Anthony's personality - heartfelt, humorous, positive, energetic. They are full of life and humanity - certainly a good read.
The books were written with the assistance of High Peak Community Arts and have been published and printed at New Mills and District Volunteer Centre. 'On the Edge' is on sale at £2, while 'The Road to Nowhere' is priced £3.
Anthony's books can be obtained in New Mills at 'Book Stop' (38 Market St.) and at 'High Street Book Shop'. Copies are also available directly or by post from 'Anthony Birchenall Books', New Mills Volunteer Centre, New Mills, High Peak, SK22 3EL, at £2 or £3 respectively, inclusive of P&P.
With Anthony as chief salesman, around 800 copies of the two books have already been sold since publication. Over the past few years Anthony has raised in excess of £10,000 for charity by his various fund-raising activities. His arduous sponsored walk up Kinder and enthusiastic collection of scrap aluminium cans are described in the 'On the Edge'.
