Millers Prepare for Big Cup Game: Blackpool Mechs 1 - New Mills 1
New Mills warmed up for next Saturday’s big quarter final league cup clash with Holker Old Boys at Church Lane with a useful point at Blackpool Mechanics.
It was a game in which the Millers created the majority of chances and yet they showed resilience to come from behind late on and then they piled on the pressure but just ran out of time. The scorer for them was Carlos Meakin and it was his seventh goal of the campaign.
The game against Holker is much anticipated in the town and the supporters can feel somewhat confident in the knowledge that New Mills are now unbeaten for an amazing 11 weeks! They last appeared in a semi final of a cup competition at this level some 32 years ago. New Mills drew 2-2 at Barrow last month and with their opponents close to the bottom of the table it is hoped that with a good-sized crowd urging them on they will progress into the last four.

Millers Res 5 - Ashton Athletic Res 1
Meanwhile, the second team enhanced their chances of finishing in the top three with a comprehensive 5-1-demolition job at home to Ashton Athletic. The visitors started brightly but New Mills opened the scoring 25 minutes in through a Dan Thomas penalty kick. Stacey Wild volleyed the ball home before the break then added another in the second half. Adam Blackburn scored Millers fourth following good work from Danny Carter and Kelvin Lugsden also scored as New Mills finished the game strongly. The visitors scored a consolation through a wind assisted free kick but the Millers had given a five star performance throughout much of the game.
They have an even better unbeaten run than their seniors with not having lost since they played FC United way back on November 11th. On Saturday they face a potentially tricky game at Flixton

Holker Old Boys 2 - New Mills AFC 2
Honours were even at Rakesmoor Lane, Adam Mather opened the scoring for New Mills with 20 minutes gone and the Millers were well worthy of their lead until around the hour mark when Holker scored twice within 5 minutes.
New Mills equalised 8 minutes from time with Adam Mather scoring again and the visitors were unlucky hitting the bar and forcing a goal line clearance in the dying minutes. |
