Sorry Millers Let it Slip
Holker Old boys 5 - New Mills 2

New Mills are fast becoming known as the Jeckyll and Hyde team of the Moore and Co Solicitors North West Counties League. For leading at half time they again fell away in the second half of a game which they should have easily won.

The trip to Barrow is the longest journey of the season for the Derbyshire club, and the pitch - which was laid in the summer at a cost of some £80,000 was immaculate. It was the visitors who dominated the first half hour with chances falling to Hall, Alex Radford and best of all to Craig Senior who shot tamely into the goalkeeper's arms. And on 14 minutes Hunter was taken out in the penalty area, but the referee amazingly waved play on and denied New Mills a clear cut penalty.

After 28 minutes Holker were awarded a free kick close to the Millers box and Dave Swarbrick fired the ball into the corner of the net with some aplomb. New Mills came storming back and it was no surprise when Senior tapped home after Hewson had saved Hall's shot. Within thirty seconds the Millers were in front when this time Hall made no mistake after an excellent run.

Whatever was said in the away dressing room during the interval was certainly not adhered to. The men in black and amber came out and played their worst football of the season and were totally overwhelmed. It was not a case of the home side being dominant, more to the fact that there was some sloppy defending and a non existent midfield. The equaliser on 52 minutes again from Swarbrick saw the ball hit from the edge of the penalty area and somehow squirm under keeper Lyons.

Fourteen minutes from time the Millers had a free kick outside the home box, and the ball was cleared up-field. The ball could have been cleared several times before possession was lost and Alex Radford gave a penalty away. Up stepped Swarbrick to thump the ball home and complete a fine hat trick.

The match was now lost and Carl Waters scored twice on 84 and 85 minutes to complete the scoring. The small travelling support were as mystified as the Management trio as to why a good first 45 minutes could not be repeated in the second half.

New Mills manager Scott Moore believes that Wednesday's Derbyshire Senior Cup tie at Unibond side Belper Town will be an ideal place for the players to get back on track to the improved form that they have shown in recent weeks.

New Mills: Lyons, Hobdey, Ignotus, Bailey, A Radford, Littler, R Radford, Hunter, Wild, Hall, Senior SUBS: Blackburn, Clarke, Brennan.

On Saturday the first team will travel to Silsden in the League Cup. The Reserve side who were called off due to the weather last week will be at home to Dronfield Town in the Derbyshire Divisional Cup quarter final and the game kicks off at 3 pm.

Ten men went to mow, went to mow a Daisy
New Mills AFC 4 - Daisy Hill 1

Craig Hall opened up the scoring for New Mills, lifting the ball over the advancing keeper just 5 minutes in. But as the home side were trying to push on for a second, an untimely challenge from Ray Hobdey saw tempers begin to fray. Hobdey was cautioned with a yellow as was one of the visitors, but Gavin Hunter was harshly dismissed from the field and New Mills were down to 10 men for the remaining 70 minutes.

The visitors equalised during the 1st half, but the Millers stamped
their authority on the game, shortly after the break. Stacey Wild unleashed a tremendous shot to regain Millers lead with Ryan Radford the provider, while good work from Stephen Land allowed Wild also to head home extending Millers lead.

Although Daisy Hill had the numerical advantage, New Mills had a stronger bench to choose from. Adam Blackburn replaced Craig Senior (seen in action right) and Rob Green and Alex Radford were also introduced.

The Millers dealt with the visitors onslaught admirably and looked dangerous on the counter attack. Ryan Radford saw his free kick sail over, but brother Alex Radford was to score a memorable goal on his debut at senior level.

An impressive performance for the men in Amber when it seemed that all was against them. A 'never say die' attitude has been evident over the past few weeks which should bode well for the Miller's trip to Cumbria on Saturday.

The Reserve team are at home this Saturday against Colne reserves, kick off is at 3pm - all are welcome.

Saturday 6th November
New Mills Res 3 - Skelmersdale 5

The Millers matched their counterparts for the full 90 minutes, Stacey Wild giving the home side the advantage at half time.

Skelmersdale capitalised on some lax defending to regain parity on 47 minutes and also took the lead later on.

Craig Senior equalised for New Mills with a well placed header - 2-2 at full time and the Millers worthy of the extra time that was needed.

Another soft goal at the near post gave the

visitors the lead who went on to score a couple more. Senior's second of the match was scant consolation, 5-3 to the visitors who now progress to the next round of the league challenge cup.

The Reserve Team beat Chadderton 1-0 courtesy of a Craig Brennan goal.
