New Mills Reserves 4 - Hollingworth 2
New Mills Reserves entertained Hollingworth at Sunny
Church Lane on Saturday. The home side led 3-2 at half
time courtesy of a Craig Senior hat-trick.
The New Mills management team made numerous substitutions
during the sweltering conditions. Late on in the game
a short corner-kick from Dan Thomas found Ryan Radford
free on the edge of the box, Hollingworth were tiring
rapidly allowing Radcliffe to thump the ball into the
roof of the net.
Senior showed lots of promise and could have increased
his tally but for some excellent keeping from the visitors.
Christian Bark was rarely troubled in goal for New Mills,
but was confident when called upon.

side, Tadcaster, winning 3 goals to 1 - scorers Craig Brennan,
Chris Phieffer and Dave Chaytow.

New Mills AFC 2 - Woodley Sports 6
Unibond side Woodley hit New Mills for six but the underdogs
had led twice during a match played at a fast tempo throughout.
|
Miller's Gavin Hunter opened the scoring inside 15
minutes following a good build up by Craig Hall and
Stacey Wilde on the left wing. The visitors had recently
held Stockport County to a 2-2 draw and were soon to
equalise in front of the substantial Church Lane crowd.
However, New Mills were playing well and

| regained the lead when Hunter's
deft flick allowed him space in front of goal, the ball
was cleared from defence but fell to Stacey Wilde who
volleyed a cracker into the top left of Woodley's goal,
from all of 30 yards.
Woodley not only equalised but took the lead before
half time arrived, the travelling support sounding an
airhorn on each occasion. Craig Hall had a good chance
to equalise for the home side but the Millers trailed
3-2 at the break.
The airhorn echoed around Church Lane another three
times during the second half as the big guns finished
the match strongly, New Mills had played well for much
of the opening period, but classy Woodley proved too
much on the night.

Reserves won 2-1 at Ball Haye Green. Stephen Done scoring
both goals.

New Mills AFC 2 - Congleton Town 2
|
Stacey Wilde gave the Millers the lead 20 minutes in
following some excellent football down the left wing.
Gareth Jones kept goal for New Mills and looked confident
in between the sticks, but after pulling off a blinding
save was forced to leave the field with an injury to
his hand, hopefully, the injury isn't too serious forcing
Gareth to miss the start of the season.
Congleton's equaliser soon followed, presented on a
plate and gift wrapped to boot. Their second arrived
as half time approached which was unfortunate and didn't
reflect the effort put in by New Mills.
Gavin Hunter broke free from midfield 15 minutes from
time, forcing Town's keeper to bring the rapid striker
down, Ray Hobdey dispatched the penalty kick efficiently,
regaining parity for the home side.

Tuesday
20th July
New Mills AFC 1 - Glossop North End 2
New Mills had plenty of possession early on but the visitors
took the lead with an unstoppable shot. Miller's Gavin Hunter
put James Stanton through on goal but a nasty injury stopped
the game for 10-15 minutes as James was whisked away for stitches,
our best wishes go out to James for an expedient return to
Church Lane. Before the half was over, the Millers gifted
a second goal to Glossop putting this friendly tie beyond
doubt.
Throughout the second half New Mills continued to show promise
in midfield, Martin Andrews and Chris Pfieffer putting their
Division-one rivals in the shade on numerous occasions.
Gary Morgan was made to work hard in the centre-half position
but coped admirably, Rob Green was one of many substitutions
in the second half as was Simon Ignotus who was mostly ineffective
in his unusual centre forward role.
The Millers had worked hard throughout and gained a consolation
late on, Stephen Littler tucking the ball away following good
work from Stacey Wilde.

Saturday
17th July
New Mills AFC 0 - Oldham Athletic XI 4
A good run out for the lads against very good
opposition, of the many new faces on show it was Martin Andrews
who looked the most composed in the heart of midfield, Rob
Green too gave a classy performance in the centre half position.
Oldham tucked the ball away for every chance that was presented
and were four goals to the good at half time.
The Millers created a few chances for themselves
during the second half, former youth team favourite Chris
Pheiffer had lots of joy down the left flank but his just
reward never came, striking the post for Millers best effort
of the game. Craig Brennan had shown some good touches before
the rotations had begun and Jason Clarke proved his worth
down the right wing late on.
The first of many Pre-season friendlies at Church lane provided
some good incisive football with an abundance of midfield
talent on show for New Mills.
