Division League Cup: New Mills Reserves 5 - Bacup Borough
Reserves 0
| New Mills Reserves got back
on the winning trail with an emphatic home victory
over a youthful Bacup Borough side at Church Lane
on Saturday. A sparkling hat trick by on-loan
teenager Danny Williams was the highlight of a polished
performance by the young Millers side.
It was the Millers who attacked from the kick off
and could have been two goals up, before on a breakaway
the visitors were awarded a penalty on ten minutes.
Thankfully, for the home side, the kick was missed.
Kyle Harrison (seen right)
opened the scoring, back from injury on 14 minutes
when his deft flick went onto the corner of the net.
There were two near misses by Pfeiffer and Clarke
before Danny Williams |
|
scored his first goal when on 28 minutes he surged into the
box and delivered an unstoppable shot into the corner of the
net giving the goalkeeper no chance. Right on half time
Williams
added a second when a clever piece of individualism was rounded
off with a neat finish.
This was a welcome return to form by the Millers and the
crowd were witness to a fine individual hat trick by the
talented Danny Williams and a good all round team performance.
The Reserve team have a break now until the New Year when
they will once again pick up in League action where they
still sit at the top of the North West Counties Reserve
Division.
The first team who had no match due to Oldham Town playing
in a cup competition will be at home to the League leaders
Padiham on Saturday and the game will kick off at 3 pm.
The Millers were the first team to beat the Lancashire side
this season when they won there 4-2 back in October, so
Padiham will be looking for revenge. It is hoped that there
will be a big crowd for what promises to be an exciting
game.

Millers Slip Up: New Mills AFC 0 - Darwen 1
New Mills slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat
on Saturday when they entertained former Football League
side Darwen at Church Lane on Saturday.
It was a game, which was played in a remarkably low-key
atmosphere from both the players and spectators. The visitors
started the brighter, and pegged the Millers back in their
own half. Gradually the home side began to gain control
with new boy Danny Williams who is on loan for a month from
Conference North outfit Droylsden running the midfield.
The closest they came to a goal was when opposing goalkeeper
Andrew Morris carelessly picked up a back-pass some ten
yards from the goal line. The resulting free kick was blocked
and the chance was gone. Everyone was glad to hear the half
time whistle, but hopes of a better second half were not
materialised.
The winning goal when it came was typical of the game really,
when the Millers central defender Simon Ignotus headed the
ball into his own net. Despite a late rally when the Millers
laid siege to the opponents end an equalising goal did not
come, and to be fair to Darwen it never looked likely to.
The lowest crowd of the season so far of 119 went home disappointed.
This defeat is a set back for the High Peak club, who have
no game this weekend in which to put things right. Three
new players have been signed in an attempt to kick-start
the season. As well as Williams they are Gary Dairymple
and the much travelled and experienced Levi Edwards.
It was a bad day all round for the Church Lane club with
the Reserves crashing 3-0 at Flixton to suffer their first
league defeat of the season. They surrendered their unbeaten
home record seven days earlier when they lost out to Dronfield
Town in the Derbyshire Divisional Cup. The Reserves are
at home on Saturday when they entertain Bacup Borough in
a League Cup tie and the game kicks off at 3 pm.
