Eight - Worth The Wait:
New Mills Res 8 - Leigh Athletic Res 0
New Mills
Reserves were in devastating form against newly-promoted
Leigh Athletic with an awesome display of finesse, flair
and fabulous finishing to welcome the visitors to Church
Lane in the Air Miles Manchester League Division Two.
Stephen
Bates started the rout, blasting the ball across
Hodgkinson on thirteen minutes. Stephen Done
scored minutes later, driving into the bottom-right
following Adrio's unselfish layoff. Rick Boston hit
the opposite corner to compound the keeper's misery,
who went on to block the shot of Miller's Danny Thomas
as half-time approached. But Leigh's joy was short-lived
when Steve Done brushed aside his defender and
placed the ball into the bottom left as well.
Leigh's manager
went ballistic during the interval, which led to their
best spell as the second-half got underway. Andy Tester
was forced to clear off his line and was left to block
when Leigh's striker was clear, but Miller's second
string were playing a fine tune resulting in a hat-trick
for Stephen Done from the slightly harsh penalty
that was awarded. Rick Boston made it six with
his dextrous turn and shot from close range with Doney
proving too much for Athletics inadequate defence, bypassing
the wingbacks at will to supply Greg Dickson
who struck the ball into the roof of the net for the
penultimate goal of the day.
A
superb team performance was rounded off by Rick Adrios
close-range header on eighty minutes with gratitude
to Steve Done's precision down the left wing.

Spurned
Chances Cost Millers Dear:
New Mills 1 - Wilmslow Albion 2
Losing
by a single goal in three previous matches has kept New Mills
at the wrong end of the table, last Saturday was no exception,
but if the home side had taken their chances early on then
Wilmslow's unbeaten record would have come to an end.
New Mills looked
full of purpose as they laid siege to Albion's goal, Stephen
Littler's volley was deflected past the post for a cornerkick,
the ball was dispatched on to the head of Ignotus who found
Craig Hall eight yards out, the resulting overhead kick was
spectacular but wide of Albion`s post. Moments later Wilmslow
chipped the ball onto Millers' post, Ben Candlin made a fine
point-blank save from the reflex shot that followed to deny
the visitors striker.

Millers strikeforce
were rampant in front of the visitors goal, Michael
Brown deftly laid the ball off to Littler who skipped
over the pass leaving Stacey Wilde free to shoot at
goal, Darren Adams in Albion's goal was in a good position
to handle safely.
Midway through
the half, Morgan's endeavour down the right almost paid
off, crossing with precision to find Wilde bearing down,
who volleyed in full flight but to no avail. Although
Wilmslow created chances in front of Candlin's goal,
the hunger on show from the Millers gave them a well
deserved lead on forty three minutes, Wilde took the
ball into the penalty box and spread it invitingly for
Dean Morgan who took two attempts at goal. The
second was struck with such ferocious venom that Adams
was powerless to stop the home side leading into the
break.
If New Mills
were the better team in the first half, this could not
be said of the second, Wilmslow had the lions share
of the ball and created most of the chances resulting
in Dave Wright's flying header several minutes in. Gary
Morgan, Neil Holdgate and Candlin ensured parity until
Matty Smith stepped up to drive the ball past the unsighted
New Mills keeper as his defence stood motionless.
The Millers
last chance came from Craig Hall who sliced the ball
inches wide of goal with his outside right boot and
Albion held the points with the ten men remaining.

Proud in Defeat: FA Youth Cup - 2nd round qualifying
New Mills Youth 0 - Chester le-Street Town 2
A spirited performance
from Millers youth, who lived with a very classy side for
long periods of the game. 2 goals in the last 15 minutes put
Chester le-street through, but the team can learn a great
deal from playing opposition of such high calibre and matching
their opponents for the bulk of the game should hold them
in good stead for the rest of the season.
The monster goal
kicks of the visitors keeper were only overshadowed by a sterling
performance from David Wilde in the Millers' goal. Callum
Clarke shone throughout much of the game, but the performance
of the whole team should leave the management proud and optimistic
for whatever lies ahead.

Millers
Double Delight:
New Mills Reserves 1 - East Manchester Reserves 0
A glorious sunny
day at Church Lane provided Scott Moore's troops the chance
to gain another three points for the division two campaign
that lies ahead. Millers keeper Andy Tester was called
upon throughout the first period to deny the visitors bright
opening spell. Ben Hall, a formidable midfield gladiator had
the Millers first chance beating the keeper with the outside
of his right boot only to see the ball drift wide of the mark.
Kieron Lugsdon signalled the intent of the home side, clipping
the ball across goal forcing Manchester's keeper, to make
a reaction save with his legs as half-time approached.

Although
the first half was fairly un-eventful, the remainder
of the game proved otherwise, Lugsden took flight from
midfield leaving his marker to chase his shadow, the
ball was struck true but wide of the top corner.
Moments
later Boston's forceful header cannoned off the crossbar
to the feet of Rick Adrio who was forced to shoot wide
of East Manchester's packed defence.
Steve
Worrall subjected the visitors keeper to his dead ball
specialities that developed from the numerous free kicks
from what had by now turned into a niggly match.
However,
the game was settled when Danny Thomas made an exhilarating
run down the left flank and delivered the perfect cross
to Boston who was fouled for a penalty. Rick Adrio
rarely misses from the spot and slotted the ball home
confidently.
New
Mills were reduced to nine men with several minutes
remaining and although Worrall grazed the woodwork it
was left to Andy Tester to steal the show making a string
of fine saves throughout which culminated in outstanding
agility during the dying moments to earn his team mates
the points so richly deserved.

Finishing
School - FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round:
New
Mills 1 - Northallerton Town 5
In
their first FA Vase game for twenty years, New Mills were
given a first-half lesson in finishing by their Northern League
opponents.
The visitors took
the game straight to the Millers and after only six minutes
Onions beat a sloppy Millers defence to score his first.
He added a second after twenty minutes before a cracker from
Boyle and a fourth from Osborne virtually booked
Towns place in the next round.
Right on the stroke
of half-time New Mills were thrown a lifeline when Dean Morgan
was adjudged to have been pushed in the box, however, Chris
Lees normally so deadly from the spot, had his penalty well
saved by Poole.
With only pride
at stake New Mills began the second half well, and suddenly
they found themselves creating chances. Dean Morgan and Stephen
Littler both went close before Steven Land pulled one
back with a neat header. Landy almost repeated the act minutes
later, but Poole pulled off a spectacular save. With a mixture
of poor finishing and good goalkeeping the Millers couldn't
get the second goal they needed and Onions bagged his
hat-trick to finish the tie.

Millers'
Goal - Land Beats Northallerton's Poole

Although the scoreline
suggests a one-sided game, New Mills should take heart from
an excellent second-half performance, and if they can show
the same attitude in the league they should soon start to
climb away from the foot of the table.

Battling
Millers Move On - FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying Round:
New
Mills Youth 3 - Bradford Park 1
New Mills fought
their way into the second qualifying round of the FA Youth
Cup with an excellent display of skill and determination at
a sunny Church Lane on Sunday afternoon. The Millers were
straight out of the blocks and took the game to their visitors
and were rewarded after only six minutes when Danny Thomas
powered a header past the keeper following a lovely cross
from the right. The Millers continued to press, and on twenty
minutes Thomas netted his second when he ran on to
a lovely through ball and shot past the keeper. Bradford had
a couple of efforts themselves, but found Wilde in the Millers'
goal at his best. With the first half drawing to a close,
The Millers were reduced to ten men, when Bradford were awarded
a penalty. But once again Wilde pulled off another splendid
save.
In
the second half the visitors took the game to New Mills and
soon pulled a goal back. With their tails up Bradford pushed
the Millers back, but some excellent defending kept them out.
With less than ten minutes remaining Keiran Lugsden
latched on to a ball and from outside the area, he beat the
Bradford keeper with an unstoppable drive and the game was
won.
This really was
a fantastic performance by all the lads and they now await
either Chester Le Street or Southport in the next round at
Church Lane.
Many thanks to the match sponsor - Art Welding & Fabrication
for their support. Attendance 90.
