Flag Denies Millers: New Mills 0 - Stockport
Geos 1
New
Mills eight match unbeaten run came to an end at Church Lane
on Saturday 24th with a 1-0 defeat by Stockport Georgians,
but it could have been so different. With twenty minutes
remaining and the game deadlocked with both defences looking
solid, Stacey Wild picked up the ball outside his own area
and ran the length of the field and calmly put the ball past
the advancing Whittle in the Georgians goal. As the ball crept
toward the empty net, Dean Morgan followed up to hammer it
in only to be ruled offside.

New Mills on the attack in the first half of the game
As is so often
the case one decision can change a game and this was no exception
as Georgians made the Millers pay when Brocklehurst's glancing
header found the net five minutes from time to take all three
points. Despite this defeat New Mills can take heart from
the fact that this was another good performance and for long
periods they were the better side against an established Premier
League team. If they continue to show this kind of form they
won't be far away at the end of the season.

Eight
Unbeaten for Millers: New Mills 3 -
Irlam Mitchell Shack 1
New
Mills stretched their unbeaten run to eight games with a fine
3-1 win over fifth-placed Irlam Mitchell Shackleton on Saturday
at Church Lane. With the Millers having a virtual full
strength squad to choose from, Manager Alan Peatfield made
one change from the side which had beaten Springhead last
weekend.
|
With
the game only minutes old, in-form striker Dean Morgan
almost put the Millers ahead when he fired narrowly
wide. This set the pattern for the next thirty minutes
as New Mills hammered away at the visitors goal.
After
several near misses captain Stephen Littler finally
put the Millers ahead when he blasted the ball home
after keeper Corfield had parried his first effort.
Playing
some of their best football of the season New Mills
pressed on and Dean Morgan eventually made it
two nil, firing home after thirty minutes.
The
only surprise of the first half came minutes before
half-time when Danny Butters reduced the arrears taking
advantage of a defensive mix up, to put Irlam back in
the game.
Although
New Mills were slow to find their feet at the start
of the second half, the defence always looked in control,
and with Irlam looking for the equaliser Stacey Wild
broke free and fed Dean Morgan who beat the keeper
for his eighth goal in five games.
This
finally put an end to the visitors resistance and sealed
another three points for the Millers, a win which pushes
them up to fourth place.

New
Mills Youth team continued their excellent start to the

gave the Millers the lead and minutes before half-time Chris
Pheiffer converted a penalty to double the lead. Dale
Johnson scored a fine solo goal to put New Mills firmly
in the driving seat, but two late goals from the visitors
ensured an exciting finish to another good game.

Double Secures The Points: Springhead

Morgan beats the keeper for goal number 1

In
misty conditions at Springhead the Millers piled on the pressure
straight from the off. An early defensive error in the
Springhead box nearly saw the home team give Millers the lead.
Right from the start the Millers were played offside again
and again until in the 35th minute Dean Morgan broke
clear after a poor clearance and slotted the ball passed the
keeper.
Good work
from Pite, Land and Lees kept the ball free from the Millers
defence and into Springheads half. At the break it was surprisingly
only 1-0 to the Millers.
At the
restart the home team started to push forward more into the
Millers half but in the 53rd minute Ignotus came from inside
his own half with a great run and put the ball into the Springhead
box. It was cleared off the line to Chris Lees who
made it 2-0. In the 72nd minute a free kick headed off the
line gave the Millers goal number three courtesy of Stephen
Littler.

The home
team again increased the pace and Embury gave them their first
goal. A free kick was well saved by Millers keeper Eaton but
Embury scored his second goal from the ensuing corner on 81
minutes. Millers immediately went straight down the field
from the kick-off and a cracking second goal from Stephen
Littler secured the match.

Magic Sinks Cromford: New
Mills 4 - Cromford 0
Derbyshire Divisional Cup 2nd Round
New Mills cruised into the last eight of the Derbyshire
Divisional Cup with an emphatic 4-0 win over Beauvale Midland
League outfit Cromford. The Millers took the game to the
visitors right from the start and could have been two goals
up inside ten minutes but for some fine goalkeeping from Jason
Gough in the Cromford goal.
Chance
after chance was created as the Millers showed their Premier
League class and it was only a matter of time before another
bumper crowd saw the first goal. Fine play between Rick Pite
and Stephen Littler saw Dean Morgan put in the clear
as he hammered home from a tight angle. The home side continued
to press forward and the only surprise was that it was just
1-0 at the interval.

Within
minutes of the restart Dean Morgan doubled his tally
with yet another well taken goal.
On the few occasions that the visitors did press forward,
they came up against a solid Millers defence. Most of the
action was at the other end with skipper Stephen Littler
netting the third.
Deano deservedly completed his hat trick with minutes
remaining, to round off a fine personal and team performance.
