Millers Draw A Blank: New Mills 0 - Elton Fold 0

On a bitterly cold day New Mills and Elton Fold fought out a goal-less draw in a game of few chances. After the excitement of last week's Derbyshire Cup win this time there was little to cheer for the crowd of 130 as for the third time this season the Millers failed to beat their Lancashire opponnents.

In a very even first half the only real chance for either team fell to Rick Pite, whose header beat the keeper only to come back off the woodwork. Although the Millers had the better of the second half, there was little goalmouth action apart from a couple of scrambles in the Elton Fold goalmouth towards the end.

A more positive note for the Millers was the return of Stephen Done who after a long injury came on as a second-half substitute.

Holders Back in Final: New Mills 2 - Alfreton Town 2
New Mills Won 4-2 on penalties

Holders New Mills went through to the final of the Derbyshire Divisional Cup after a tense semi-final tie at home to Alfreton Town on Saturday. After thirty minutes, few in the crowd of over 250 could have imagined just how close a call it proved to be as The Millers were two goals to the good and it could have been more.

It was no surprise when New Mills eventually went in front when Chris Lees tapped in at the far post for his fifth goal of the season. Still the homesters continued to attack and they doubled their lead when Mickey Brankin beat the offside trap and calmy chipped the Town keeper.

The big crowd were still cheering when a rasping drive from Steven Land rattled the crossbar. Further chances fell to The Millers but against the run of play and just before the break, Alfreton were awarded a penalty when Housley was adjudged to have been fouled. John Sunderland calmly scored from the spot and suddenly the visitors were back in the match.

The second half belonged to Alfreton and with only minutes remaining Hogg turned in a cross from the left to send the game into extra time.

As in the Chapel game earlier in the competition, Barry Eaton in the Millers' goal proved the hero, saving two of the Alfreton spot kicks, and it was left to Scott Dignan to shoot New Mills into a Derby final against local side Whaley Bridge.
