LANTERN MAKING TRAINING - Sett Valley House, Sett Close
Fri 3 7-9pm and Sat 4 9.30am-4.30pm.
Come along and learn Karima Ellis’ skills in Lantern making. Full training will be given in how to make lanterns. Tuition is free but we would expect you to come and share your expertise at a minimum of three Lantern Workshops.

Make your very own lantern for the famous Lantern Procession. A team of trained helpers is on hand to help you. A minimum of two sessions needed to complete a lantern. Adults & accompanied children over 8. £1 / person / session.
FIRE WORKSHOPS - Liberal Hall, Hurst Lea Road
Sat 11 10am-4pm; Sun 12 10am-4pm; Sat 18 10am-4pm; Sun 19 10am-4pm.
Come and help make some of the fire sculptures which will decorate the route of the Lantern Procession. Free.
Fri10 7.45pm “Barton Bridges falling down” Sett Valley House, Sett Close, The History Society presents this talk by Glen Atkinson. Admission 50p
Sat 11 11am Music on the Promenade - Promenade, Market Street, Thornsett Band entertains. Free
  7.30pm “Festival Fanfare” - New Mills Art Theatre, Jodrell Street,
A not-to-be-missed music song and dance spectacular presented by New Mills Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society with a host of local talent.

Sun 12 11 am Festival Sports - New Mills Cricket Ground,Church Road, New Mills Bowls Cricket and Tennis Clubs host a Festival Sports Day. Competitions and

  7.30pm Cello Quartet by Celloscape - St. James, Spring Bank,
A mixture of light and classical music performed by four busy professional cellists includes Dvorak, Purcell, Charlestons and Foxtrots. Refreshments available. Admission £5/£3 concessions

Dr. Derek Brumhead MBE presents this special celebratory talk. Cheese and Wine provided by New Mills Town Council. Free
Tue 14 7.30pm “The No. 1 Gents’ Detective Agency: Fieldwork in Lesotho 1972 - 2004” - New Mills Library, Hall Street, An illustrated talk given by Colin Murray. Free

Glossop storytellers entertain with Eugene Patterson’s version of the story of Ruth, with Northumbrian pipes and recorder. To commemorate the bi-centenary of the Bible Society. Free, donations welcome.

Test your memory and brainpower with one of these well known quizzes. Teams of up to six people welcome. £1 per person. Proceeds to this year’s Community Bonfire.

  7.30pm LANTERN PROCESSION - in the Torrs with Fire Sculptures.
Bring your lantern if you have one, or just join in the procession. Meet in the park below New Mills Central Station. Procession moves off at 7.30pm
and ends at Newtown Recreation Ground with fireworks and a display of children’s work. Free donations welcome.
  8pm Gene Therapy and the Chromosomes - New Mills School Hall, Church
Lane, End the evening and enjoy the music from Gene Therapy and
the Chromosomes. Bar available Admission £5.
Sun 26 6pm Songs of Praise - St James, Spring Bank.
United Co-op New Mills Band will lead us in some favourite hymns. Come early this traditional finale Festival event is usually packed. Free

Artist in Schools
During the Festival fortnight Andrew Robinson will be our artist working with children in local schools with his light and shadow workshops. Sponsored by United Co-op (Late Shop) and Focal Design.
