Sat 6 3-6pm Lantern Training Workshops - Sett Valley House, off Market St. Want to be part of our lantern team? Come and learn how. No previous experience needed. Free.
7.30pm Nigel Ogden on the Organ - Radio 2's star performer on the restored organ - St Georges Church, Church Ln. £5/£4 (tickets from St Georges Church and Bookstop)

Fri 12 7.30-11pm Battle of the Bands - New Mills Town Hall, Spring Bank £3.50/£2.50. Great sound from our best young up-and-coming bands. Who will win?
Sat 13 10am-4pm Fire Effects Workshop - Liberal Hall, Hurst Lea Road (behind the Police Stn). Come and hwelp us make some of the Fire Sculptures which are such a feature of the final procession. Ring Nigel on 01663 749402 for details
10.30am New Mills Junior Band on the prom, Market Street. Free

10am-4pm Heritage Open Day St James' Church, Spring Bank. Free, refreshments. Come along and see our beautiful hidden gem, usually closed. Exhibition, refreshments.
2-4pm Open Garden - The Grange, Spring Bank. See the products of green fingers! Refreshments.
8pm Buzz Hawkins Entertains - Buzz Hawkins brings the Bradshaws to New Mills. New Mills Town Hall, Spring Bank. Adults only, £7.50. bar. His last appearance in New Mills was a sell-out. A top entertainer: next stop the Lowry at Salford. (sponsored by D&C Satelites)

6pm Songs of Praise - St James' Spring Bank, accompanied by United Coop New Mills Band with the Archdeacon David Garnett and Methodist Rev. David Willie
Mon 15 5pm

Circus Sensible - New Mills Primary School, Meadow Street £1.50. A show for all primary school children to enjoy. Do bring your kids or grandkids (sponsored by New Mills Dental Pratice).

Tue 16 7.12pm Edale Folk Train from New Mills Central Station. Lynn and Barrie Hardman play on the train, at the Rambler in Edale and on the 9.07 back to New Mills. All for your train ticket and a pint. (A Hope Valley and High Peak Transport Partnership event )
7.30pm A Good Read 'Grand Passions' - New Mills Library, Hall Street. Free, refreshments. Selections from some of the books which topped the poll in the BBC series. Bring your own favourites and join in if you wish
Wed 17 8pm Film Show, Nicholas Nickleby (PG) - Library Lecture Room, Hall Street £3 (sponsored by Focal Design)

Sun 21 9.30am Celebration of two festivals: New Mills and the Harvest Festival, St George's Church, Church Lane. An all-age family service, addressed by Bishop Jonathan of Derby, followed by Harvest Lunch in the Parish Hall, (lunch tickets £5, please book by 14 September at Songs of Praise or by ringing the Vicarage 01663 743225)

8pm Book launch A Mixed Harvest by Maurice Hope, with readings by Kate Millward New Mills Library Lecture Room. New Mills' own story, bang up to date, told by ourselves.

Fri 26 7.30-11pm The Grand Festival Ceildh with High Jinks - Town Hall, Spring Bank £5/£4, bar. A highly popular family event.
Sat 27 7pm Grand Lantern Procession through the Torrs with Fire Sculptures and Fireworks Finale at Newtown Rec. Meet at Mousley Bottom below New Mills Central Stn. Cars can be left at Swizzles Car Park for the end of the evening. A super free finale.
8pm White Van Man - New Mills School, Church Lane. Book with PTA £5

Throughout the Festival:
Our Town Visual Arts Event - An opportunity for all ages to show how they see New Mills in paint, drawing, photos, sculpture or video. You can do something which will be put on display!
Exhibitions in Heritage Centre, Community Education Centre and various other venues.
Babbling Vagabonds Storytelling Theatre Company's hands-on puppet making workshops. Come along and join in the fun! Transform everyday materials into shadowy fireflies or mischievous watersprites, or make some giant walkabout puppets to join in the procession in the Torrs.
There will be drop-in workshops for all ages at Spring Bank Community Education Centre. Mon 22- Fri 26 from 4pm - 6pm and then 7pm - 9pm.
