| The unique New
Mills One World Festival, now in its 15th year, took place on
Saturday 19 June from 12 noon to 6pm in High Lea Park New Mills.
A grand community outdoor event, free to all, celebrating themes
of Peace, World and Community Development and the Environment.
A fantastic line
up of local bands - White Van Man, Steal the Recipe, Quintal
Jazz, Johnny Quango, Seabird, Martin Hall and Michael Clements
- music to suit all tastes.
Talks about innovative
environmental projects such as the Derbyshire Car Share Scheme,
National Bike Week and the Environmental Voluntary Network -
inspiring people to sign up as a volunteer for one of their
projects.
A wide range of interesting
and informative stalls, plenty of tasty food and special entertainment
for children. A rap poem about the festival played at 4pm -
Claire Mooney, Roving Poet, inviting contributions to the rap
throughout the afternoon.
The evening fundraising
gig presented great entertainment to round off a perfect, if
chilly, day. Starting at 8 pm at New Mills Town Hall the line
up included Bad Dog, Myoho and New Lights Big Band.
