ONE WORLD FESTIVAL - Sat 23 JUNE 12 to 6pm 2001
HIGH LEA PARK, St Mary's Rd, New Mills

This year's [2001] One World Festival is set to be the best in its twelve year history. It will host stalls and entertainments from alternative technology to Indian classical dancing and from decorative art to sculpting with plumbing equipment.

'We are very excited,' said Sara Clarke, a member of the organising committee. 'Somewhere between the bouncy castle and the children's art tent, we are going to fit in Derbyshire Alternative Technology Association's converted truck with a wind turbine and solar panels, a marquee with six bands, speakers on global and rural issues and about 35 stalls explaining different groups, each one working, in some way, to make the world a better place to live in.

'We have also got wonderful, colourful dancing from India and the art of Rangoli, a purely decorative, ephemeral art that women make in front of their homes all over the subcontinent.'

The One World Festival is a chance for everyone to celebrate the oneness of the world we live in. There will be things to engage the mind, to inspire creativity, to admire and enjoy - and to eat! 'It's the best day out of the year,' enthuse the committee. 'And what's more: it's free!'
