The QueenA series of films are being screened in New Mills by Thirty Frames Per Second. The latest was "The Queen" staring Helen Mirren, on Sat 27th of January, at the newly refurbished Providence Church on Mellor Road. This attained an excellent turnout of over 100.

The audience were greeted by a Queen look-a-like, which proved to be very popular. She acted the part to perfection and did a wonderful job of greeting people. The local hairdressers Hair Sett did her hair and clothes were from Oxfam.

The series of films started back in November 2006 with "On a Clear Day" - sponsored by Derbyshire Film, a government initiative to bring mobile cinema to towns and villages without a cinema. In December Hitchcock's "Vertigo" was screened at Sett Valley House on a Sunday afternoon.

Thirty Frames Per Second have also organised a number of other events in New Mills. On the day they screened "The Queen" a Tiarra Workshop was run in the Liberal Hall by Hazel Atkinson, a talented jewellery designer. Particpants could engage in lots of different jewellery making techniques using a collection of beads, copper, and silver plated wire. Previous to this Thirty Frames Per Second organised an Animation Workshop at the same venue.
