New Mills & District Flower Club

Chair: Mrs E Ann Pass, Kohima, Hague St, Glossop, Derbyshire SK13 8NS, Tel 01457 864205

The club meet at 7.30pm on the first Monday in the month (or 2nd if a Bank Holiday) at Sett Valley House, Sett Close, New Mills, where parking is available.

The club is part of NAFAS - the National Association of Flower
Arranging Societies. In October and November, then January
through to July, selected qualified demonstrators are invited to show their skills to members and visitors.

Using a title theme the demonstrator arranges flowers and foliage into five or six designs to develop the story, whilst giving tips on how to grow plants and shrubs, and how to condition them so that they will last longer in water. They introduce new flowers from around the world, many coming via Smithfield market or from the popular 'Dutchmen' who bring wholesale flowers to this country in their refrigerated vans.

Later in the evening the arrangements are raffled off, and refreshments are available.
There is also a sales table for related sundries such as tape, oasis foam, fixing agents, ribbon, containers and silk flowers.

In December we organise a Christmas Meal for members. Our AGM is held in September and is for members only. We raise funds twice a year with Coffee Mornings - Sat Dec 1st 2001 and Sat 11th May 2002, at Sett Valley House from 9am to 12 noon. The club will sell home made cakes and crafts, bric-a-brac, books and plants, and also have a tombola stall. Admission is 35p which includes coffee, biscuits, and service with a smile.

Our evenings start at 7.30pm. Visitors are always welcome for £2.50, or save by joining the club and coming each time for £15 per year. We are a friendly club so why not pay us a visit and see for yourselves.
